A competition of BLM-branded mustangs, the Mustang Open competition is for adults and youth who want to continue to compete and showcase the abilities of their mustangs.
The Mustang Open invites all BLM-branded mustangs and burros to participate in a fun, all-around event to showcase their adopted animals and interact with other adopters and enthusiasts.
This is an open competition for all BLM Mustangs or Burros (any age/must have a BLM Freezemark). Mustangs 12-24 months old and all Burros are only eligible for the In-Hand Division – they may not be ridden at any point during the event.
Please submit a separate entry form for each animal/exhibitor. The exhibitor does not have to be the adopter or owner of record. ALL animals must have a current Coggins certificate and health certificate and a copy of each must be provided at check-in.
The competition includes classes in-hand, liberty, walk-trot and walk-trot-canter(lope). Exhibitors ages 2 years and older are eligible to enter. The Mustang Open show will be held in conjunction with the Georgia Mustang TIP Challenge event in Fairburn, GA on September 24th and 25th, 2022.
Classes - Entry fees are $30/class
Horses may compete in the In-hand, Liberty, WT and WTC classes. Patterns will be provided at the show.
IN-HAND Classes: Pattern, Trail, Freestyle, Jumping, Ground Driving
WALK-TROT Classes: Trail, Freestyle, Jumping, Dressage, Maneuvers
WALK-TROT-CANTER(LOPE) Classes: Trail, Freestyle, Jumping, Dressage, Maneuvers
LIBERTY Classes: Novice (Lead Line), Intermediate (Liberty Horse), Advanced (Liberty Horse).
All classes will follow the Georgia Open Show Rules which can be found below.

- Trail will be natural obstacles with some obstacles designed to test your skills.
- Freestyle is limited to 3.5 minutes with 3 minutes of set-up time. Freestyle follows Georgia Open rules which can be found below.
- Dressage tests are
- WT: USDF Intro B (2019) or Western Dressage Intro 2 (2017).
- WTC: Western Dressage Basic 2 (2017) or USDF Training 2 (2019). Dressage follows USEF rules
- IN-HAND and WT Jumping will be over cross rails.
- WTC: Hunters may be over a 2ft or 2'6 course. Follow USHJA rules.
- Maneuvers class is designed to show a working horse's versatility, attitude, and movement. This class follows AQHA rules.
